CT-pathologic correlation of major types of pulmonary fibrosis: Insights for revisions to current guidelines

Chung JH, et al. - An inquiry was performed of the diagnostic importance of CT patterns which could not be classified based on current idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) guidelines and of specific findings of the inconsistent with usual interstitial pneumonitis (UIP) pattern. Researchers found that a significant minority of cases could not be confidently categorized according to current guidelines for IPF and differed diagnostically from the possible UIP and UIP CT categories. Data displayed that the term 'inconsistent with UIP' was misleading and ought to be renamed.
