Could remifentanil reduce duration of mechanical ventilation in comparison with other opioids for mechanically ventilated patients?: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Critical Care Evidence based | Aug 11, 2017

Zhu Y, et al. – Efficacy and safety of remifentanil versus other opioids in mechanically ventilated patients, were assessed. Findings indicated that duration of mechanical ventilation, time to extubation after cessation of sedation, and length of ICU stay (ICU-LOS) appeared to be reduced in association with remifentanil use. In addition, hospital–LOS, costs, mortality or agitation offered by remifentanil versus other opioids did not vary significantly.
