Cortical superficial siderosis and acute convexity subarachnoid hemorrhage in cerebral amyloid angiopathy

European Journal of Neurology Oct 26, 2017

Raposo N, et al. - This retrospectively study aimed to compare the prevalence of cortical superficial siderosis (cSS) between patients with cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) presenting with acute convexity subarachnoid hemorrhage (cSAH) vs. lobar intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). Moreover, the authors investigated the physiopathology of cSS by examining neuroimaging associations. cSS was independently correlated with acute cSAH among patients with CAA. These findings proposed that cSAH could be involved in the pathogenesis of the cSS observed in CAA. To evaluate this potential causal relationship, longitudinal studies were warranted.
