Control of cardiovascular risk factors among us adults with type 2 diabetes with and without cardiovascular disease
The American Journal of Cardiology Jun 28, 2019
Andary R, et al. - Researchers assessed recent national data on attainment of single and multiple cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factor targets among adults with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) with and without CVD. From the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2013-2016, they identified 1,179 T2DM adults. Of these T2DM adults, around half were at target control of hemoglobin A1c (55.8%), BP (51.3%), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (49.3%), with more being nonsmokers (84.3%). A slightly higher proportion of those with CVD was at target for these factors except for LDL-C. A lower proportion of patients among those with vs without prior CVD were at composite control. According to findings, less than one-fifth of adults with T2DM are at composite CVD risk factor control for HbA1c, BP, LDL-C, and nonsmoking status.
