Contribution of hiatal hernia to asthma in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease

The Clinical Respiratory Journal Dec 01, 2017

Li ZT, et al. - This study was performed on patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)-related asthma requiring laparoscopic anti-reflux surgery, to determine the correlation between asthma and hiatal hernia (HH). A high prevalence of HH was reported among GERD patients with asthma. In addition, data suggested that the presence of HH may be correlated with asthma and severe GERD. Improved reflux and controlled asthma symptoms were achieved by actively treating HH.
