Contralateral knee hyperextension is associated with increased anterior tibial translation and fewer meniscal injuries in the anterior cruciate ligament-injured knee
Knee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy Jul 11, 2018
Sundemo D, et al. - Researchers determined the impact of hyperextension of the contralateral healthy knee on anterior tibial translation (ATT) and the presence of related injuries in the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)-injured knee. They found an association of contralateral knee hyperextension with greater pre- and postoperative ATT in the ACL-injured knee. They documented less frequent concomitant injuries to the menisci in patients with contralateral knee hyperextension. They recommend surgeons considering grafts with superior properties with respect to postoperative anteroposterior laxity to patients with contralateral knee hyperextension.
