Congenital retinal macrovessel and the association of retinal venous malformations with venous malformations of the brain
JAMA Ophthalmology Mar 08, 2018
Pichi F, et al. - The multimodal imaging findings of a series of eyes with congenital retinal macrovessels (CRM) were assessed. Experts also described the systemic relationships of retinal venous malformations with venous malformations of the brain. Findings suggested a relationship between the macrovessels in the retina and venous anomalies of the brain. Hence, for the systemic workup of patients with CRM new guidelines were recommended to include brain magnetic resonance imaging with contrast. More accurately, these lesions could be referred to as retinal venous malformations, by which awareness could be raised regarding potential cerebral associations.
