Confocal Raman spectroscopy: in vivo measurement of physiological skin parameters - A pilot study

Journal of Dermatological Science Aug 15, 2017

Binder L, et al. – This trial entailed the characterization of the skin composition of the volar forearm, in vivo using confocal Raman spectroscopy (CRS). It also incorporated the validation of CRS as a non–invasive method to determine cholesterol levels. CRS was a beneficial tool for the in vivo monitoring of skin components and hydration. It was illustrated that the concentration depth profiles yielded information about the current skin condition. The skin and blood cholesterol concentration did not disclose any distinct relation. Hence, the heterogeneous distribution of cholesterol in the skin could serve as a factor impacting these results.
