Conditioned pain modulation is affected by occlusion cuff conditioning stimulus intensity, but not duration

European Journal of Pain Aug 19, 2017

Smith A, et al. – In this study, experts sought to examine whether occlusion cuff intensity and/or duration influenced conditioned pain modulation (CPM) magnitudes and to explore the role of physical activity levels on CPM magnitude. They indicated that when compared to 2/10, an occlusion cuff of 5/10 conditioning stimulus intensity, significantly increased CPM magnitude. For 3 min, maintaining 2/10 conditioning stimulus did not increase CPM magnitude.
