Comparison of the efficacy of sub-tenon vs intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide injection during cataract surgery for diabetic macular edema
Ophthalmologica Jul 27, 2018
Tatsumi T, et al. - Researchers compared the effectiveness of sub-Tenon triamcinolone acetonide (STTA) to intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide (IVTA) injections during cataract surgery (CS) for patients with diabetic macular edema (DME). They compared the medical records of 33 eyes (26 patients) with DME which had undergone CS with STTA to those of 34 eyes (27 patients) with DME which had undergone CS with IVTA. For DME treatment after CS, the merits and demerits of IVTA and STTA should be considered by the ophthalmologists. Findings suggested a significant improvement in the BCVAs after STTA and IVTA at 3 and 6 months.
