Combined GLP-1, oxyntomodulin, and peptide YY improves body weight and glycemia in obesity and prediabetes/type 2 diabetes: A randomized single-blinded placebo controlled study
Diabetes Care Jun 12, 2019
Behary P, et al. - Via a single-blinded mechanistic study of obese and diabetic patients, the researchers sought to study glucagon-like peptide 1, oxyntomodulin, and peptide YY (GOP) when given for 4 weeks and it's effects on glycemia and body weight. Superior glucose tolerance after a mixed-meal stimulus and reduced glycemic variability via GOP was noticed in comparison to Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) and avery low-calorie diet (VLCD), despite a smaller weight loss compared with RYGB and a VLCD. Improved glycemia and reduction in body weight post GOP infusion was noted, hence a viable alternative for the treatment of diabetes with postive effects on body weight.
