Combined anterior cruciate and anterolateral ligament reconstruction in the professional athlete: Clinical outcomes from the SANTI group in a series of 70 patients with a minimum follow-up of 2 years
Arthroscopy Feb 01, 2019
Rosenstiel N, et al. - In this retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data from the SANTI Study Group database between January 2011 and March 2016, the authors assessed the clinical consequences in professional athletes after combined anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and anterolateral ligament (ALL) reconstruction at a minimum follow-up of 2 years. They observed a significant decrease in side-to-side anteroposterior laxity. A development in pivot-shift grade from 16 grade I (22.8%) and 54 grade II/III (77.2%) preoperatively, to 66 absent pivot shift (94.3%) and 4 grade I was also noticed. They recorded the mean subjective International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC), 90.5 ± 7.6; the Lysholm score, 94.4 ± 7.5; and the Tegner score, 8.8 ± 1.5 at final follow-up. Overall, they found excellent outcomes with combined ACL and ALL reconstruction in terms of graft rupture rates, return to the sport, knee stability, and reoperation rates after injury.
