Cognitive trajectory phenotypes in human immunodeficiency virus–infected patients
Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes Aug 27, 2019
Dastgheyb RM, Sacktor N, Franklin D, et al. - Researchers examined HIV-infected patients for categorizing the longitudinal change in cognitive ability based on their performance in specific cognitive domains. They analyzed data of 193 participants from the CHARTER cohort and recognized 4 distinct cognitive change phenotypes that involved deteriorations in verbal fluency, executive function, learning and recall, and motor function; each phenotype had roughly equal numbers of participants in each. Deficits that imply concerns about specific neural networks are identified by each of the four cognitive change phenotypes.
