Cognitive functioning in patients with carotid artery occlusion: A systematic review
Journal of the Neurological Sciences Sep 12, 2018
Oudeman EA, et al. - This systematic review was undertaken to evaluate the prevalence and profile of cognitive impairment in patients with carotid artery occlusion (CAO) and to examine the connection between hemodynamic impairment and cognitive functioning. For this investigation, researchers systematically searched Medline and EMBASE for studies including subjects with symptomatic or asymptomatic CAO subjected to cognitive testing that were published between 1980 and 2017. It was noted that cognitive impairment is present in about half to two-thirds of patients with CAO. Findings revealed that cognitive impairment is not restricted to specific domains. They found that the role of cerebral hemodynamic impairment is not clear.
