Cognitive and pathological influences of tau pathology in Lewy Body Disorders
Annals of Neurology Dec 20, 2018
Coughlin DG, et al. - Researchers studied 55 autopsy-confirmed Lewy Body Disorder (LBD) and 25 Alzheimer's disease (AD) cases to study the effects of co-occurring Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathology on anatomic distribution of α-synuclein (SYN) pathology and also the co-occurrence of neocortical tau pathology in LBD linked to detrimental cognitive performance. They observed LBD participants with AD co-pathology had elevated neocortical SYN pathology and regional tau pathology linked to cognitive performance in LBD dementia, with its distribution might have deviated from pure AD. They also found the contribution of tau co-pathology to the heterogeneity of cognitive impairment in LBD.
