Clinicopathological and immunohistochemical study of 14 cases of Morbihan disease: An insight into its pathogenesis

The American Journal of Dermatopathology Oct 03, 2019

Ramirez-Bellver J, Pérez-González Y, Chen K, et al. - Experts characterized the clinicopathologic findings, outcomes, and immunophenotype of Morbihan disease (MORD, is rare with only 45 clear-cut cases earlier reported). Fourteen patients were reported and the former cases were reviewed. The most commonly involved areas were eyelids and forehead. Two of the individuals exhibited former rosacea. Lymphatic vessel dilatations in the upper dermis and the presence of mast cells were the most persistent histopathological findings. In most of the individuals, mild edema was also observed. In seven of the cases, granulomas were discovered, and immunostaining with CD68 and CD14 only exhibited a supplementary case. Thus, it was concluded that MORD occurs more in middle-aged men, not correlated with rosacea and mostly impacts eyelids and forehead. Furthermore, for the diagnosis, granulomas are not necessary. Also, histopathology of MORD fits within the spectrum of localized lymphedema.
