Clinical study of Presepsin and Pentraxin3 in critically ill children
Journal of Critical Care Jun 07, 2018
El Gendy FM, et al. - In this prospective observational study, researchers ascertained the significance of Presepsin and Pentraxin3 measurement in critically ill children, compared with healthy controls. The presence of sepsis was assessed and Pediatric Risk of Mortality (PRISM) and Pediatric Index of Mortality (PIM2) were calculated. Within 24 h of admission, they measured serum Presepsin and Pentraxin3. They found that for monitoring critically ill children and diagnosing sepsis, Presepsin and Pentraxin3, which are acute phase proteins, showed potential utility. Pentraxin3 was found to be related to mortality but provided a modest discrimination of survivors from non-survivors. Presepsin was also found to be associated with certain indicators of disease severity.
