Clinical outcomes of hyperplantarflexion variant compared with supination external rotation ankle fractures: A matched-cohort analysis
The Journal of Foot & Ankle Surgery Apr 12, 2019
Thacher RR, et al. - Authors researched the data to quantify the consequences for surgically treated hyper plantarflexion variant fractures vs supination-external rotation (SER) IV fractures. With respect to body mass index, length of the clinical follow-up, medical comorbidities, dislocation rate, and postoperative articular incongruity, the two cohorts were similar. No statistically or clinically significant differences were noticed in patient-reported outcomes within any domain: symptoms (70.8 vs 77.8), pain (80.7 vs 85.0), activities of daily living (83.7 vs 89.2), sports (67.4 vs 73.4), and quality of life (57.3 vs 63.9) for the hyper plantarflexion and SER IV groups, respectively. They did not report significant differences in the range of motion for dorsiflexion (17.7° vs 18.1°) or for plantarflexion (48.6° vs 47.1°).
