Clinical features of advanced glaucoma with optic nerve head prelaminar schisis Prelaminar schisis in advanced glaucoma
American Journal of Ophthalmology Jun 24, 2021
Sung MS, et al. - Researchers conducted this cross-sectional study to examine the clinical characteristics of optic nerve head (ONH) prelaminar schisis in eyes with advanced glaucoma. One hundred sixteen eyes with advanced glaucoma (30-2 MD < -12 dB) were involved. ONH prelaminar schisis was found in 48 of the 116 eyes studied. The ONH prelaminar schisis was linked to thin and deep lamina cribrosa, short axial length, and generally thick macula. Macular measurements, rather than peripapillary or ONH measurements, better predict the functional status of the eye in patients with these features. The findings could have a big impact on how advanced glaucoma eyes with and without ONH prelaminar schisis are treated.
