Clinical factors predicting persistent carriage of KPC-producing carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae among patients with known carriage
Journal of Hospital Infection Nov 03, 2017
Kim YK, et al. - Researchers here sought to assess the clinical variables associated with persistent carriage of Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC)-producing carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE). Findings revealed more frequent carriage of KPC-producing CRE among patients with known carriage and especially those having multiple and prolonged hospitalizations after 6 months of initial acquisition. They observe this information as useful for coordinating strategies for preemptive isolation by appropriately predicting the CRE carriage status, and ensuring active surveillance through risk factor stratification.
