Clinical efficacy of a new Cetyl Pyridinium Chloride-Hyaluronic Acid based mouthrinse compared to Chlorhexidine and placebo mouthrinses – A 21 days randomised clinical trial

International Journal of Dental Hygiene Jul 13, 2019

Tadakamadla SK, et al. - In this 21 days randomised clinical trial involving 75 subjects, researchers compared the efficacy of a novel mouthrinse based on Cetylpyridinium Chloride (CPC)-Hyaluronic Acid (HA) with Chlorhexidine (CHX) and placebo mouthrinses in plaque and gingivitis prevention. Calculus, extrinsic stains, oral malodor and occurrence of adverse events were the secondary outcomes. Findings revealed that there were no significant variations in the gingival index, calculus scores, oral malodor, and adverse event reporting between the three experimental groups. Investigators found that CPC-HA and CHX had comparable efficacy in inhibiting plaque accumulation while there were no variations in gingivitis prevention between mouthrinses. They observed that CHX and placebo mouthrinses induced dental staining but not CPC-HA mouthrinse.
