Clinical characteristics of polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy and anti-vascular endothelial growth factor treatment response in Caucasians
Ophthalmologica Nov 15, 2019
Kokame GT, et al. - In this retrospective chart review, researchers identified the clinical features of polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) in Caucasian patients and evaluated the prevalence of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) resistance. The sample consisted of Caucasian patients diagnosed with PCV and utilizing indocyanine green angiography with the scanning laser ophthalmoscope. Participants in the study were 49 patients (54 eyes) with PCV, the mean age was 72.9 years. Data reported that 44 patients had PCV unilaterally and 10.2% had PCV bilaterally. According to findings, PCV is more often unilateral in Caucasian patients and is more prevalent in the macular region than in the peripapillary region. The two most common results were serous detachment and retinal pigment epithelial detachment. Resistance to current anti-VEGF therapy has been frequently noted; this subtype of type I subretinal neovascularization is therefore extremely important to identify.
