Clinical and pathologic analysis of myopericytoma in the oral and maxillofacial region

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology Jul 27, 2019

Ju WT, et al. - In terms of clinical appearance, diagnosis, therapy, and results, researchers evaluated myopericytoma in the oral and maxillofacial region. They analyzed and collected data on five new patients (mean age 43.8 years) with myopericytoma in the oral and maxillofacial region treated at the department. Positive staining for vimentin and smooth muscle actin and negative for CD34 and desmin was shown by immunohistochemical examination. There was no tumor recurrence during the follow-up period (8–56 months). Myopericytoma always exhibits benign biologic behavior in the oral and maxillofacial region and a heterogeneous region with internal contrast-enhancement or cystic change on imaging examinations. Surgery is the first therapy option and leads to excellent clinical results.
