Circulating Klotho levels can predict long-term macrovascular outcomes in type 2 diabetic patients

Atherosclerosis Jul 25, 2018

Pan HC, et al. - Researchers investigated the role of Klotho (an enzyme and transmembrane protein suggested to be a contributor to reduced oxidative stress, improved endothelial function, and vasoprotection) in vascular complications related to diabetes in a population of 252 prospectively recruited patients with type 2 diabetes who visited an outpatient clinic at their hospital between 2009 and 2011. For analysis, patients in the top and bottom tertiles of circulating Klotho level were enrolled. Based on the findings, circulating Klotho level predicted long-term macrovascular outcomes in patients with type 2 diabetes.
