Circulating dipeptidyl peptidase-3 at admission is associated with circulatory failure, acute kidney injury and death in severely ill burn patients

Critical Care Apr 28, 2020

Dépret F, Amzallag J, Pollina A, et al. - Researchers undertook this biomarker analysis of a prospective cohort study, to examine the link between plasmatic dipeptidyl peptidase-3 (DPP3; a metallopeptidase which cleaves bioactive peptides) level and outcome (mortality and hemodynamic failure) among severely ill burn patients. Two tertiary burn intensive care units participated in this study. Measurement of DPP3 was obtained at admission and 3 days after. The primary endpoint was 90-day mortality. Hemodynamic failure and acute kidney injury (AKI) were assessed as secondary endpoints. There were 111 consecutive patients who were enrolled. Among severely burned patients, experts observed an increased risk of death, circulatory failure, and AKI in relation to plasma DPP3 concentration at admission.
