Chlorhexidine disinfectant can reduce the risk of central venous catheter infection compared with povidone: A meta-analysis
American Journal of Infection Control Oct 04, 2019
Shi Y, et al. - Researchers performed assessment of the efficacy of chlorhexidine with povidone as a skin disinfectant for central venous catheter care via conducting a meta-analysis of 10 randomized controlled trial studies. Findings indicated a superior efficacy of chlorhexidine vs povidone in the reduction of catheter-related bloodstream infections. They observed a lower rate of catheter colonization in association with any solution of chlorhexidine vs any solution of povidone. Alcohol solution of chlorhexidine displayed better disinfectant effect compared with aqueous chlorhexidine, povidone in alcohol solution, or aqueous povidone.
