Chemical efficacy of several NaOCl concentrations on biofilms of different architecture: New insights on NaOCl working mechanism
International Endodontic Journal Aug 12, 2019
Petridis X, et al. - In this investigation, researchers explored the anti-biofilm effectiveness and working mechanism of several NaOCl concentrations on dual-species biofilms of different architecture as well as the changes induced in the remaining biofilms' architecture. To test the association between bubble formation and NaOCl concentration, linear regression analysis was performed. The experimental hypothesis that enhanced biofilm disruption, dissolution, and bubble formation were anticipated with increased concentration of NaOCl in both types of biofilm was generally confirmed. According to findings, distinct variations between the two types of biofilm were observed with respect to the anti-biofilm effectiveness of NaOCl and the impact that the various levels of NaOCl had on the viscoelasticity profile and the content of bacteria/extracellular polysaccharide. Biofilm architecture appears to be an additional determinant of NaOCl's penetration capacity and thus of its anti-biofilm efficiency.
