Clinical Ophthalmology Mar 04, 2021
Alqudah N, Jammal H, Khader Y, et al. - Researchers conducted this retrospective study for analyzing the demographic, clinical and topographic characteristics of keratoconus patients in Jordan. This investigation was carried out at King Abdullah University Hospital, Northern Jordan. The sample consisted of patients (n = 234), aged 20 to 24, who visited the outpatient clinic from March 2015 to September 2020 and had a definite diagnosis of keratoconus. Gender was found to be a significant factor in the severity of keratoconus. There was no link discovered between family history and severity. Data reported that most of the keratoconus patients were young, with a mean age of 25.9 years. The majority were mild in severity, with more females at a severe stage. The study reported a high rate of family history (23.5%) compared with similar studies. The screening of family members of patients with keratoconus is therefore advisable.
