Changes in circulating cell-free nuclear DNA and mitochondrial DNA of patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis

BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders Nov 06, 2019

Li J, Wang L, Yang G, et al. - The plasma of peripheral blood from 69 adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) individuals and 21 age-matched controls (CT) was obtained for cell-free DNA (ccf-DNA) analysis in order to examine the ccf nuclear (n)-DNA and mitochondrial DNA (ccf mt-DNA) concentrations in the plasma of individuals with AIS and controls (CT), and evaluate the altered plasma ccf n-DNA and ccf mt-DNA levels and their correlation with clinical parameters. Quantitative PCR was utilized to discover ccf n-DNA and ccf mt-DNA levels, and correlation analyses between the ccf n-DNA and ccf mt-DNA levels and clinical features were done. However with no/little predictive exactitude of AIS/progressed AIS by ccf DNA levels, markedly changed plasma ccf DNA levels were recognized in AIS individuals in comparison with those in controls.
