Catestatin serum levels are increased in male patients with obstructive sleep apnea
Sleep and Breathing Aug 12, 2018
Borovac JA, et al. - In this study including 78 male obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) patients aged 50.3 ± 8.8 years and 51 age/sex/BMI-matched control subjects aged 50.4 ± 7.8 years, researchers compared catestatin serum levels among male OSA patients vs healthy control subjects and examined associations of catestatin with anthropometric, polysomnographic, and lipid profile parameters in OSA patients. They observed significantly increased catestatin serum levels in male OSA population. Also, they noted that catestatin serum levels positively correlated with disease severity in non-obese patients. Furthermore, they identified that catestatin levels independently predicted OSA status; however, this finding was restricted to patients with moderate-to-severe disease.
