Cardiorespiratory fitness and brain volumes in men and women in the FINGER study

Pentikainen H, et al. – This study was designed to investigate any gender–based differences in the link between association of cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) with total grey matter (GM) and white matter volumes, as well as medial temporal lobe and striatum volumes in a study population of men and women at increased risk for Alzheimer's disease (AD). Findings demonstrated that elderly men at increased risk for AD, but not women, exhibited a link between CRF and cortical GM and total GM volumes, respectively.
