Capnography sensor use is associated with reduction of adverse outcomes during gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures with sedation administration

Jopling MW, et al. - Researchers, herein, sought to determine, in hospital medical inpatients and all outpatients undergoing gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures (GEP) performed with sedation, the incidence of pharmacological rescue events and death at discharge and the impact of capnography monitoring on the incidence of these adverse outcomes. Findings demonstrated an association of capnography monitoring with a reduced likelihood of pharmacological rescue events in outpatients and death in inpatients when assessed at discharge. Furthermore, the use of capnography during these procedures was recommended.
