Cancer risk among children conceived by fertility treatment
International Journal of Cancer Jan 09, 2019
Wang T, et al. - Investigators conducted a systematic literature search using various electronic databases through April 2018 to investigate the association of fertility treatment with childhood cancer risk. Specific outcomes of interest included overall cancer, hematological malignancies, neural tumors, other solid tumors, and eight specific cancer types. A total of 16 cohort and 13 case-control studies were included in the analysis. The investigators noted an association of fertility treatment with an increased risk of leukemia and hepatic tumors. They also found that children conceived by fertility treatment had a higher risk of acquiring overall cancer, hematological malignancies, and other solid tumors. However, it remained unclear whether the increased risk was due to subfertility itself or to the fertility treatment.
