Can symptoms differentiate between chronic adenoiditis and chronic rhinosinusitis in pediatric patients
ENT Journal Apr 08, 2019
Purnell PR, et al. - Authors identified a chart review from a tertiary care facility with pediatric cases presented with suspected chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) from 2006 to 2014 and studied the clinical outcomes in pediatric cases with chronic adenoiditis vs CRS cases on the basis of presenting symptoms. They identified children with CRS vs those with chronic adenoiditis using the computed tomography (CT) score. They observed a similar past medical history of asthma or allergy in both groups. They found an association of smoke exposure with CT scores >5. They concluded purulent rhinorrhea plus facial pain more indicative of CRS in comparison to chronic adenoiditis.
