Bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome is associated with increased p-glycoprotein expression and loss of glucocorticoid receptor from steroid resistant pro-inflammatory CD8+T cells

Clinical and Experimental Immunology Jan 26, 2018

Hodge G, et al. - This study was designed to test the hypothesis that the drug membrane efflux pump, p-glycoprotein-1 (Pgp), may also be involved in lymphocyte steroid resistance following lung transplant. Loss of glucocorticoids receptor (GCR) from the CD8+ cells has already been shown by researchers. This current investigation demonstrated the association of bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome (BOS) with increased Pgp expression and loss of GCR from steroid resistant pro-inflammatory CD8+T cells. Graft survival may be improved with treatments that inhibit Pgp and upregulate GCR in CD8+T cells.
