Boosting healthy food choices by meal colour variety: Results from two experiments and a just-in-time Ecological Momentary Intervention
BMC Public Health Jul 30, 2019
König LM, et al. - Researchers evaluated the efficacy and feasibility of an intervention strategy for promoting healthy food choices by prompting consumers at a meaningful moment with a simple behavioral trigger—eating a colorful lunch. The trial involved two laboratory experiments and one real-life, smartphone-based Ecological Momentary Intervention. An increase in the proportion of healthy foods consumed was reported in relation to prompting participants to eat a colorful meal vs typical meals in all three studies. As reported by the participants, the tastiest and most pleasant meals were colorful meals, and the prompt was easy to follow and act upon. Overall, this intervention strategy was identified as a promising approach to promote healthy food choices in daily life.
