Bloodstream infections in cancer patients. Risk factors associated with mortality.
International Journal of Infectious Diseases Apr 13, 2018
Islas-Muñoz B, et al. - The authors aimed at determining the clinical characteristics and risk factors associated with mortality in cancer patients with bloodstream infections (BSI), analyzing multidrug-resistant bacteria (MDRB). In cancer patients, BSIs are noted to cause severe complications. In solid tumors, secondary BSI and central-related BSI were most commonly noted. In hematological patients, primary BSI and mucosal barrier injury BSI were described. Increased 30-day mortality was observed with multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria. Mortality was observed to be related with inappropriate antimicrobial treatment in the first 24 h.
