Blood kidney injury molecule-1 predicts short and longer-term kidney outcomes in patients undergoing diagnostic coronary and/or peripheral angiography- Results from the catheter sampled blood archive in cardiovascular diseases (CASABLANCA) study
American Heart Journal Dec 16, 2018
Ibrahim NE, et al. - In prospectively enrolled 1,208 patients undergoing coronary and/or peripheral angiography for various indications, researchers investigated the role of blood measurement of kidney injury molecule-1 (KIM-1) as predictor of kidney outcomes. They investigated predictors of non-procedural acute kidney injury (AKI) by means of univariate and multivariable Cox proportional hazards models. Peri-procedural AKI and predictors of progression to chronic kidney disease (CKD) were assessed using univariate and multivariable logistic regression analysis. They found that, peri-procedural AKI and non-procedural AKI as well as progression to CKD were predicted by elevated pre- and post-procedural KIM-1 concentrations in a typical at-risk population undergoing coronary and/or peripheral angiography, as seen in adjusted analyses.
