Biomarkers of dietary omega-6 fatty acids and incident cardiovascular disease and mortality: An individual-level pooled analysis of 30 cohort studies

Circulation May 30, 2019

Marklund M, et al. - Using 30 prospective observational studies from 13 countries, how in vivo circulating and tissue levels of linoleic acid (LA) and arachidonic acid (AA) impact incident cardiovascular disease (CVD) was assessed by researchers. The range of medians of follow-up among the 30 studies was 2.5 to 31.9 years, during which, 68,659 participants developed 15,198 incident cardiovascular events. In pooled global analyses, a lower risk of major cardiovascular events was reported in relation to a higher in vivo circulating and tissue levels of LA and perhaps AA. LA was shown to have a favorable role in CVD prevention.
