Aurora borealis and string of pearls in vitreoretinal lymphoma: Patterns of vitreous haze
British Journal of Ophthalmology Feb 06, 2019
Marchese A, et al. - In this retrospective, observational study, researchers studied 26 eyes of 13 candidates from January 2016 to April 2018, to identify the role of vitreous involvement in vitreoretinal lymphoma (VRL) with the aid of multimodal imaging including ultrawide-field imaging and slit-lamp photography. They observed the presence of vitreous haze (3 patterns) in 92% of total eyes. They found linear opacities with a myriad of cells aligned along the vitreous fibrils. An aurora borealis pattern was noticed in 12 eyes. They recorded a string of pearls pattern in 2 eyes at baseline which developed in other 4 eyes after vitrectomy, exhibiting fine fibrils (connecting the bunches of inflammatory material).
