Atypical antipsychotics, insulin resistance and weight; a meta-analysis of healthy volunteer studies

Burghardt KJ, et al. - Researchers performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of atypical antipsychotic trials in healthy volunteers to investigate if atypical antipsychotics could cause insulin resistance and weight gain independent of psychiatric disease. Observations revealed decreases in insulin sensitivity both with and without significant weight gain when analyzed by subgrouping. Treatment length could be influencing insulin resistance and weight gain.
