Attenuated serum vasoactive intestinal peptide concentrations are correlated with disease severity of non-traumatic osteonecrosis of femoral head
Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research May 24, 2021
Liu M, et al. - This study was undertaken to investigate the potential role of serum vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) concentration in osteonecrosis of femoral trauma (ONFH). Researchers included 103 healthy individuals for this study. The commercial ELISA kit was used to detect serum VIP, tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-1 beta, and macrophage colony-stimulating factor levels. Researchers evaluated the clinical severity of ONFH by visual analog score and Harris Hip Score. They conducted receiver-operating characteristic curves to investigate the potential diagnostic value of VIP in radiographic progression. The results showed that attenuated serum VIP concentrations are associated with disease severity of nontraumatic ONFH. The findings demonstrate that reduced serum VIP may serve as a potential indicator of non-traumatic ONFH.
