Associations of multidomain lifestyle intervention with frailty: Secondary analysis of a randomized controlled trial

American Journal of Medicine Jul 07, 2018

de Souto Barreto P, et al. - Whether the severity and incidence of frailty in older adults could be linked to a long-term multidomain lifestyle intervention was investigated in this randomized controlled trial. The data presented in this work showed that, in community-dwelling older adults, an intervention focusing on physical activity, nutritional counseling, and cognitive stimulation was correlated with a reduced risk of developing frailty, however, it did not affect frailty severity. Adding exercise training to a multidimensional intervention might further protect against the development of frailty. The beneficial effects of the intervention were most apparent after 3 years of follow-up.
