Associations of ARMS2 and CFH gene polymorphisms with neovascular age-related macular degeneration
Clinical Ophthalmology Mar 18, 2021
Supanji S, Romdhoniyyah DF, Sasongko MB, et al. - In this case-control study involving 104 neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) and 100 control individuals, researchers determined the correlation of ARMS2 A69S, ARMS2 del443ins54, and CFH Y402H polymorphisms with nAMD for the first time in an Indonesian population. AMD diagnosis was assessed by retinal specialists based on color fundus photography and optical coherence tomography. The findings show that ARMS2 A69S and ARMS2 del443ins54 polymorphisms are closely linked to the risk of nAMD for the first time in an Indonesian population. When the presence of risk alleles from ARMS2 A69S was coupled with the presence of hypertension, the risk of nAMD increased.
