Associations of electronic and conventional cigarette use with periodontal disease in South Korean adults
Journal of Periodontology Sep 02, 2019
Jeong W, Choi DW, Kim YK, et al. - Among South Korean adults, researchers used multiple logistic regression analysis to explore the connection of conventional cigarette smoking and electronic cigarette vaping with periodontal disease. Data were examined from 13,551 candidates, a subset of the 2013-2015 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Participants in the study were divided into four categories: electronic cigarettes vapers, conventional cigarettes smokers, ex-users, and non-users. The authors discovered that electronic and conventional use of cigarette were connected significantly with increased rates of periodontal disease. Both vaping and smoking each had a significant link with periodontal diseases after adjusting for demographic, socioeconomic, and health-related characteristics. This research, therefore, indicates that vaping might not be a secure option to smoking. It is essential to discontinue both kinds of cigarettes to maintain oral health.
