Associations between comorbidities, their treatment and survival in patients with interstitial lung diseases: A claims data analysis
Respiratory Research May 01, 2018
Schwarzkopf L, et al. - Researchers used longitudinal claims data from a German Statutory Health Insurance Fund in order to determine the prognostic influence of comorbidities and comorbidity-related pharmaceutical treatments in patients with various interstitial lung diseases (ILDs). Using a LASSO selection process, multivariate Cox models were used. The most prevalent comorbidities included chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), arterial hypertension, and ischaemic heart disease (IHD). A clinically meaningful detrimental influence of comorbidities on survival was evident. Overall, in various ILDs, a significant impact of comorbid conditions and their treatment profile on mortality was seen, hence, comprehensive comorbidity assessment and management remain crucial in any ILD.
