Association of self-reported sleep and circadian measures with glycemia in adults with prediabetes or recently diagnosed untreated type 2 diabetes

Diabetes Care Jun 14, 2019

Mokhlesi B, et al. - Via a multiethnic cohort including 962 overweight/obese adults aged from 20–65 years with pre-diabetes or recently diagnosed, untreated type 2 diabetes (T2D), the researchers intended to determine the association among self-reported short sleep, poor sleep quality, and/or circadian misalignment and higher glycemia, BMI, and blood pressure (BP). Correlation between >8 h sleep duration with higher fasting glucose and <6 h with higher BMI was observed. Working shifts were linked with higher BMI. Furthermore, social jet lag and delayed chronotype were related to higher blood pressure.
