Association of race/ethnicity with specific glycemic thresholds for predicting diabetic retinopathy
JAMA Ophthalmology Feb 25, 2019
Moore KJ, et al. - Researchers sought to propose race/ethnicity-specific glycemic thresholds to predict diabetic retinopathy (DR) status among US adults using a nationally representative sample. In the US adult population, DR is the leading cause of acquired blindness and it is one of the major microvascular complications of type 1/2 diabetes. Using glycemic thresholds, epidemiologic studies have suggested thresholds for predicting DR status. Extensive research on racial/ethnic differences in diabetes and on a glycemic threshold for DR has been made in general, however, there is still limited literature on race/ethnicity–specific glycemic thresholds to predict risk for DR and DR status.
