Association of nonoxidized parathyroid hormone with cardiovascular and kidney disease outcomes in chronic kidney disease

Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology Mar 20, 2018

Seiler-Mussler S, et al. - The association of elevated plasma parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels with greater cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in CKD patients has been already reported. It has been argued that measurement of nonoxidized PTH better reflects biologically active PTH than measurements with conventional assays. In this current investigation, it was demonstrated that PTH was associated with all-cause mortality in a cohort of patients with CKD. Furthermore, data revealed no association of nonoxidized PTH with any of the clinical outcomes examined.
