Association of non-surgical periodontal therapy on patients' oral health-related quality of life—A multi-centre cohort study
Journal of Clinical Periodontology Apr 26, 2019
Peikert SA, et al. - Researchers performed this multi-centre cohort study in order to examine how non-surgical periodontal therapy (NST) is associated with the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in general. They also looked for relation to the severity of periodontal disease and treatment modalities. Before and 6–8 weeks after NST, they measured 172 patients with periodontal disease from 18 dental practices using a standardized and validated OHRQoL instrument (Oral Health Impact Profile-G14, OHIP-G14). Outcomes revealed a positive association of NST with patients' oral health-related quality of life. The disease severity and caregiver and treatment modality (favoring systemic antibiotics) were noted influencing this association.
